Resumen

This paper intends to describe elements for research projects that establish phenomenological relations between the African-American religions and Catholicism. This work will be based on inquiring a very well known point of view in the studies of the relationship history between both religious expressions which states that only the aspects of traditional African religious substantially constitute the pillars of African-American religions, whereas Catholicism's contributions have just represented a barely screen relied upan by slaves to hide their own original ways and preserve their religious memories. If the slaves practice their religious belieft this way to preserve them, then permanent contact began to influence and change different aspects respectivety. Therefore, maintaining that position today has an ideologized content, contrary to the apparent pretensions. lt does not properly assess the religious African-American systems, as it does not consider that the transformation, reinterpretentions and the plasticity levels that allowed them not only to contribute elements, but also to adapt once having entered in contact with Catholicism, a religion that itself has been nourished during its long history by various cultural and religious influences - prior and after its historie surge.
