The physical and cosmological conception that emerged in the 16th century and the first half of 17th was a real revolution incomparison to the way in which the aristotelian and thomist tradition had conceived the universe. Ideas such as the infinite space among other theses, marked the way in which modernity would understand the universe. In this sense, the critic to Aristotle made by Giordano Bruno has a deep meaning because it reveals the dawn of the new cosmology, that would be developed in the thoughts of Descartes and Leibniz. The following essay intends to show the fundamental cosmological theses of the aristotelism and Thomism through the 16th century, in arder to expose the critic made by Giordano Bruno. We will try to make an approach to the dawn of the physics and cosmology in the modern world.
