The philosophical thought of Jean Guitton attempts to understand the profound unity of real beings, individuals, doctrines and institutions. The common characteristic of ali beings is temporality. His is a philosophy of the world considered in its existence in time and in its relation to eternity. His concrete ontology consists of four principal ideas: everything exists as a living thing marked by temporality, there is a development in germinal form for a virtual unfolding, the world seems to be continuous but being is discontinuous and in it continuity is secondary, and the essences guide their development following a freedom.
