In arder to understand the ideo/ogy behind the process of the Venezuelan independence, the author contrasts the political ideas prevalen! in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through the writings and thoughts of the Venezuelan Christian writer Juan Germán Roscio. His intellectual effort will permit to understand andjustify the separationfrom Spain, and how the principie of National Sovereignty contrasts with the doctrine of the divine origin of power in the Monarchy.
