Resumen

Communists and Right Movements agree in perceiving Karl Marx as a prophet of a totalitarian dogma, but an objective reading of its extensive work shows us a democratic socialist figure and an implacable adversary of any type of autocracy and elitism through his proposal of a popular movement. Several aspects of his thought are compatible with the Christian perception of the world and with the social doctrine of the Church: criticism of political tyranny, rejection of wild capitalism, the objective existence of social classes conflicts, a preferential option for the poor, the importance of the economic factor in the development of History, the concept of "structure", and his historical optimism. In this essay we will try to read sorne of Marx' s political principies that can help us understand the validity and legitimacy ofhis work for contemporary democratic political proposals.
