Resumen

The most outstanding phonetic, morphological, semantic and syntactic features of the language of Alfons X the Learned in his General Estoria (General History) are exposed, and compared with Latin and modern Spanish. The conclusion is: the language of king Alfons is an evoluted phase of popular Latín spoken through the centuries by hispanic Romans, although with several influences of Arab. Ali together, it moves away on various details from our days' Spanish, in which the "aberrant'' academicist labor of the Real Academia Española de la Lengua is obvious. In fact, sometimes the traditional phonetic tendencies which originated the language of Castilla were put aside, anda great deal of classical Latin words, together with their wrighting and phonetics, through the learned way were recove red and introduced again into the language of Spain.
