-- This paper attempts to argue that political events that happened between 1810 and 1811 founded our republican destiny. They give us the basic principles that have guided our great desire far freedom and equality. These principles have been so powerjul that they have served to defend the established arder and to confront it, to move back andforwards, always in constant search. The historiography of our country to which we are accustomed has underestimated thisfounding moment, transferring its importance to the wars of independence, to the military feats, to the battlefields. lt has put aside that our republican history begins with the assumption of sovereignty, with the doctrinal debate of ideas, with the creation of parliamentary representation and with the creation
of modern republican institutions. Christians cannot but see there what John German Roscio saw at his time: that Christian faith and its best tradition lead us to positively evaluate this aspiration as something wanted by God and therefore always in constant review and questioning, by the meaning that it contains.
