EL SERMÓN DE MONTESINOS (COMUNIDAD, PREDICACIÓN Y DEFENSA DE LA JUSTICIA)

Resumen

-- This famous sermon was preached by Fr. Antón Montesinos on the third Sunday of Advent in the so called "Isla Española" (today Dominican Republic and Haití). In the sermon the preacher denounced the injustices committed against the indigenous peo ple. It could have changed the future of the Conquest and Evangelization in America. But the political interests were different and more powerful. The most meaningful trait of the sermon was that, even thought it was preached by Montesinos, it can be considered as a very communitarian sermon. The Dominican community had pre pared the sermon fasting, praying, studying, deliberating ... They wrote the sermon and each one of them signed the sermon. The community made an excellent exercise of communitarian preaching: reading the sings of the times, exercise of Christian compassion, communitarian discernment ... entrusting the sermon to Fr. Montesinos, the best preacher among them. He had really the grace of preaching.
