-- The study presented here is a deepening literary and theological leve! of an important text that touches on faith. The combination of the structure of the text of "Hebrews" we have chosen has a central coreformed by a historical exposition of doctrine (Cf 11.1-40) surrounded by a parenthetical exhortation cutting context designed to strengthen the flagging faith of Christians of the
Jewish community of the late lsta. C. (Cf 10.19-39 and 12.1-13). The situation of the community is marked by a deep inner spiritual crisis of confidence and perseverance, tiredness and inconstancy. The community feels threatened by the sin of apostasy to the temptations that hinder an authentic lije of faith. The author invites the recipients to be strong given the evidence and conflicts that
come from the externa[ environment hostile to the community. This interna[ and externa[ situation is an obstacle to the loyalty and perseverance of Christians. The author invites them to overcome the negative values that have made their way as discouragement, loss of faith and hope, the abandonment of community assembly, the danger of the sin of apostasy. In response, the author propases a line of spiritual work to overcome these drawbacks. The first line is a dynamic faith characterized by the faith of the Old Covenant ancestors among them two prominentfigures: Abraham and Mases. Christians need is faith to energize their
lije to attain salvation. The second line is a steadfast hope that becomes freedom, openness, endure, firmness, perseverance. This will help heal the wounds that have occurred along the way. The third line is a charity active in the fraternity is manifested through the good works that Christians are suffering as a result of persecution. The author describes the situation of the community using the metaphor of the stage in which the Christians compared to competing athletes running and fighting, must demonstrate their effort to keep the faith and are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses who encourage them. These viewers are
those who have completed their race and their struggle in the Old Covenant. Through timely correction God educates community members to overcome difficulties, to be strong as afather corrects and educates their children.
