-- Pope John XXIII desired to announce the cal/ for an Ecumenical Council in the Chapter Hall of the Monastery of St. Paul Outside the Walls, in Rome, on 25 January 1959; it was precise/y on the day of the closing of the worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, thus indicating as one of the main tasks of the Council, the reestablishment -the restoration- of Christian unity. Vatican Council II, in fact, promulgated a document exclusively devoted to ecumenism, namely, the Decree "Unitatis redintegratio". Since then there has been significant progress in the relationship of the Catholic Church with the ancient Churches of the Middle East, with the Orthodox Church, with the Ecclesial Communities resulting from the Protestant Reformation, the Anglican Church ... In particular, the relationship with the Anglican Church has taken an unexpected turn with the promulgation by Pope Benedict XVI, on November 4, 2009, of the Apostolic Constitution "Anglicanorum Coetibus".
