-- The term power has a double meaning: capacity and domination. When realities are asymmetric or too much unequal, due to lack of capacities in one side, the other part uses his own to domínate. This is a reality in many scopes of human life, and especially in political power. Such is the subject of our conference: How to increase the capacities of those who have less, in order to reduce or eliminate the domination they suffer? The relation of our subject with theology is essential. Power is a mystery of the human heart.
The powerful lives the temptation of replacing God. The Love-God transforms domination into service, as it was taught and lived by Jesus. The present paper analyzes the specific temptations of poli.ti.cal power, as well as the handling of utopias, the government, the state, the people and the political messianism. The second part considers the different forms of creating power for the poor people. In order to do this, we consider the cultural and effective appropriation of laws, institutions and a productive culture for the poor, in the same way as the solidarity that leads towards social alliances with professional sectors, as well as the need of transferences to increase the assets of the poor. All of it united to an ethical, organizational and consciousness growth towards the accomplishment of more citizenship and better state for ali. In a special chapter we deal with what the Church, the Religious Life and the University have to do in order to increase liberating power in those who lack of it.
