-- The earthly realities have their own consistency, their rational laws and their authorities. The II Vatican Council, celebrated 40 years
ago, recognized the world's autonomy, and its relation to the sources of Revelation and ecclesiastical authorities as well. Nevertheless, the Church has its specific and own contribution to history and social realities. This essay approaches the sense of autonomy such as expressed in the II Vatican Council, as well as the deep changes that happened in the last forty years, within the relations between Church and Society.
