-- We are a multiethnic and multicultural country although the modernization process and now the globalization one make us ali alike in certain ways. In our country coexist severa! different cultures: Indian, afro-american, peasant and creole as traditional cultures, and suburban and western worldwide as contemporary ones. The first three and the suburban are below-ranked cultures, the creole and western worldwide are dominant. The dominant cultures have an ethnic western underground with sorne westernized people. The peasant and suburban cultures are composed mainly by people of mixed-races. The other two are obviously indians and blacks. However, the multiethnic character tends to be neglected by mixed-race ideology, so the multiculturalism is not recognized because those with western roots behave as if its culture were the only one and the others were underdeveloped and uncivil.
This paper proposes the pertinence of admitting the country 's multiethnic and multicultural character, which means, as the Constitution states, to build a nation-state. The suburban culture awareness would be the tria! for this recognition and the path to acknowledge the others. Our problem is the same as in reference to the western hemisphere and the rest of the world, thus its solution would open upa way to solve the world problem.
